If you are having issues with straw cap, please read this review!
I would really like to give this product 5 stars because I like the thick, strong glass, the slip-resistant silicon sleeve, and the fact that there is no plastic off-taste to the water; however, there is something seriously wrong with the straw. Sometimes when I suck on the straw, only a small dribble of water comes out of it. Other times, so much water comes out that even after I've pushed down the top of the straw cap, there is standing water on top. I've also noticed that whenever I put this bottle in the cup holder in my car, even if it's just there a few minutes, a puddle of water quickly forms around the bottom of the glass and in the cup holder. I don't see any holes or cracks in the bottom of the bottle, so I think that water may somehow be coming up through the straw even when I'm not sucking on it. I've read that there's been many issues with the old straw and that a new, better straw was designed. Is there any way I can be shipped a new straw? Thank you.
UPDATE 10/27/14
I decided to e-mail Lifefactory directly at https://www.lifefactory.com/contact-us and I ended up talking with a very knowledgeable and extremely helpful customer service rep named Koryn. She gave me a list of helpful tips on how to solve common issues with the straw cap and she really went above and beyond to help me solve what was wrong with my cap. I am changing my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars because of all of her help, and I want to post the helpful tips she sent me so that it can hopefully help some of you as well. Contrary to what I read on some reviews, Lifefactory has not changed the design of their straw cap (though they did with the flip top caps) and your straw cap should work if you follow the helpful tips.
*You need to open the flip spout all the way until it stops, at a very wide angle, and you should only get great suction in the one position of the flip spout. If the flip spout is opened to any other position, the flip spout will not spill, but you will also not get any suction.
*It's normal to have water spit out or drip up periodically. This should not happen all the time. This is caused by air pressure changing within the bottle. When extra pressure develops, the air wants to move liquid out of the way to make room for itself. With a straw cap, the water can actually move up through the straw and out the cap. Air pressure changes by temperature changes, if your bottle warms up or cools down, it can affect the air pressure. To relieve this, you can periodically unscrew the cap, take off and put it back to relieve the built up pressure. If condensation builds up with the bottle, it can cause the air vent to be blocked off, not allowing proper venting which would relieve that pressure. Turn your cap over to find a small grey circular disk, this we call the "umbrella valve." Try rotating the disk to alleviate the blockage and it should help with venting.
*When you get a new cap, the straw will come at an extra long length. So you'll need to cut it with a pair of scissors. Make sure the straw is not touching the glass whatsoever. It works best if cut at an angle.
*If you are not able to suck any water up through the straw and are only getting air, then the cap is not sealing, which is probably the inner gasket not being assembled properly. The inner gasket is a small clear o-ring that sits right underneath the flip up mouth spout. It's what seals the cap to the mouth spout. If it moves at all it won't create a proper seal and you won't get any suction. You can repair this by removing the spout and adjusting the inner gasket by putting it back into its place. Often times removing the spout will cause it to go back in place on its own. You can remove the spout by opening it to a 90 degree angle, straight up and down, and pulling it up. Be careful while doing this because too much force can cause the inner gasket to go flying once the spout is removed.

Since there seems to be many issues with the straw cap and most of them can be solved by following the helpful tips above, I do wish that Lifefactory would include a list of helpful tips and detailed product information with every purchase of the straw cap.
Also, Lifefactory apparently does not monitor reviews on Amazon, so you will not get a response from the company just by posting a review here. You will need to contact them directly at https://www.lifefactory.com/contact-us
I hope this information helps some of you guys!
