Perfect for doing gym quality exercises at home
The expensive gym I go to charges even more to take TRX classes. Or, I could hire one of their personal trainers who is authorized to use their TRX system. Personal trainers are expensive, and I am always nervous in the small groups. I’m usually the largest girl there, and very self-conscious about what I can and cannot do. No more! With this kit, I have everything I need to do all the exercises on my own, in the comfort and privacy of my own home.
The poster provides me with instructions for all the different exercises, and is very easy to follow. Now, don’t get me wrong, the exercises are still hard! And, some I can’t do yet. But, I like being able to try them and experiment without everyone in the gym seeing me struggle. The privacy of home is definitely a benefit for me. I also like that I can go to youtube and search for beginner TRX exercises. I found several good workouts that I can try on my own. Some are better than others, but with this kit I can experiment to my heart’s content and try new things at my own pace.
One of the biggest benefits of TRX is that it lets me determine the amount of weight my muscles support by the angle of my body. In general, the larger the angle, the more work for the targeted muscles. For example, staying upright during a chest press is less work than leaning forward at a deeper angle. As I get better with the exercises, I can adjust my angles to make the same exercises harder. My favorite exercise with the TRX straps is an assisted squat. While I do regular squats all the time, this system supports me and lets me get into a really deep squat that I normally couldn’t do. Again, as I get stronger I will rely on the support less and less, but still get a nice deep squat.
Setup is incredibly easy. Since I don’t have a ceiling hook, I don’t need the extender piece. I just hooked the strap part right into the piece that goes behind the door. The length of the straps is easy to adjust, and the pull tabs are nice and sturdy, making the process quick and easy. I don’t need to worry about having the two sides exactly even since there is a little bit of play at the top to even out the grip. After a few minutes of use, adjustments are simple and natural.
The entire system is well designed and extremely well executed. The straps are well sewn and simple to use. Even though I am a very large woman, I never felt insecure using the straps. I was confident allowing the straps to take most of my weight during the exercise and had no doubts about their ability to support me and keep me safe.
The only difficult thing about this system is finding a space to use it. As more and more houses are built using an open floorplan, there are fewer and fewer actual doors. But, each bedroom still has a door, so there is always that option. And, if you are lucky enough to have a weight bearing hook in your ceiling, it’s a complete non-issue! I received this product at a discount in exchange for my fair and honest review.
