Good daily driver food, reasonably priced, good performance.
Been using this cat food for a couple years since one of my cats developed a kidney stone. After dealing with that and talking to the vet and being prescribed an expensive brand of food, I took research and matters into my own hands. Since I did not want to have to feed my 3 cats 2 different types of food, I had to economize and figure out the best thing to accommodate the urinary challenged one. A bit of research determined that other than some base ingredients (chicken/beef/lamb/etc) the core "difference" between standard cat food and urinary tract style is more or less the reduction/elimination of magnesium. Armed with that knowledge, I set out on a quest to find something to replace the Hills Prescription C/D my vet was raking me over the coals financially. While I will agree the Hills brand food is more than likely higher overall quality and probably is "better", this Purina formulation matches close enough (particularly on the magnesium content) that I prefer this for my cats. It sits squarely at the intersection of value and performance as all three of my cats have been on this particular food for several years now and are as healthy as ever. The one that was prone to crystals forming in its bladder (ie the 2000 dollar cat) has not occurred since and shows no signs of recurrence in subsequent visits.
