We have a 7-month old kitty. She's the cutest little thing, but she's so messy. She used to have this litter box that worked perfectly, until she decided to start "playing" with the litter and making a mess around the box. As she grew older the litter would be all over the place every day and it was a pain to clean it. Odors were also a factor but not a big one as the litter issue. We had looked for a closed litter pan and this is the one that had the best reviews. The ones at Petco or other stores weren't that sturdy and were more expensive. We made the right decision. Assembly was a non-issue, and the whole thing is ready to use as soon as it gets to your house. It's big enough for most (if not all) cats and there's enough space for them to do their thing. The door opens fairly easy and our cat had no issues understanding how it works. In theory cleaning a hooded/closed litter pan should be more troublesome but not with this one. You can move the door to the upper part (and leave it there if you cat has trouble with it) and it gives you enough space to clean it without having to take out the whole upper part. It's really easy. There is a carbon filter on top for odors, and while I'm still using the one that came with it - I have a feeling that even without it the odors shouldn't escape that much. 5/5 Highly recommended.
