Expensive. Not only worth it, but the cost evens out
We just adopted 3 wee kittens who were on Blue Buffalo when they came to us. Their poor bowels never stabilized on that (and BB just isn't what it used to be years ago). Lots of super stinky diarrhea that would *almost* get better and then would become a watery mess again. We tried ALL the big named super premium foods; from kibble to freeze dried. All three couldn't agree on a single brand that I tried to switch them to. I never even HEARD of Dr. Elsey's until I searched something ridic like "Best kitten food" (because that's not at all broad). I found Dr. Elsey's on Cat Food Database rated as one of the highest. Personally, I think it should be THE highest rated. As soon as it came in all three of my little rascals pounced on it and chowed it down (I figured since all the other reviewers said that happened to them, there was no way it was going to happen for me and if you're thinking the same, the company has a money back guarantee). This morning—I kid you not—solid poops and three happy stink-less kittens who happily ate their breakfast with giant, enthusiastic munchie mouths. Here's the second thing you have to consider after you flip out about $42 for only 6 lbs of cat food. Because there's more protein in this food, you have to feed 2x less of this food than any of the other foods out there, including the super ultra premium foods that are pretty much the same price. So say you're comparing Orijen Dry Cat (which is what I was considering switching them to) to Dr. E's and your cat is 12 lbs. You have to feed them 1c daily of Orijen and 1/2 c daily of Dr. E's. Pretty sure they also send you coupons if you sign up on their website (just checked you get 20% off your first order). Which means you're really paying 2x as much when you feed Orijen (or insert other comparative brand here) because you have to feed THAT much more of it despite the cheaper price tag. Not the bargain you first thought it was. Plus this food is better. I'm beyond thrilled. And because my review sounds a bit on the ravingly insane side, I should probably say I'm not at all affiliated with the company nor are any friends or relatives, didn't receive anything for free or for a fee (I wish, that would be a serious win-win situation). I just whole-heartedly believe in the food.
