Great outer shell design!
We love coffee and use our French Press every morning. Recently, we needed to find a replacement glass to our 15+ year old Starbuck's French Press. We found Cafe Du Chateau French Press on Amazon. The price point and sleek design lured us in. When the Cafe Du Chateau French Press arrived, we tried it out and compared it's use to that of our aging Starbuck's French Press.
Here's what we loved about this product:
(1) Price! Very economical purchase to get the whole French Press for a reasonable price.
(2) The outer shell does indeed insulate more of the glass and helps to keep the coffee warm longer. The handle is also a perfect size and I feel more confident when I pour a glass of coffee using this Cafe Du Chateau's French Press versus the Starbuck's holder because the larger casing helps hold the glass beaker firm in place so there is no shifting.
Here's what we found as a challenge:
(1) the plunger tends to allow a few grounds to slip by and into the upper section of the coffee
(2) there is splash back that occurs when applying pressure to the plunger, plunging slowly even after the coffee grinds have settled still presents a challenge
We tinkered with the new plunger/filter device for a few days and then just relented to use our old Starbuck's plunger with the Cafe French Press. I do know that when I compare the two plungers side-by-side, there seems to be differences in the length of the lip at the top (cafe Press has much smaller lip than Starbuck's Press). The bottom of the press looks identical to our old one but something is different because the grounds slip past the new plunger on the side as it presses down the glass. Maybe need to update design to compensate for this (?).
