We got a friendly four month old female kitten who loves other cats. Our eleven year old male, who had lost his two companions within the past eight months, wasn't thrilled. She couldn't get within five feet of him before he started growling. Having used original Feliway Comfort Zone in the past with spectacular results, I immediately ordered it to help with the older cats anger. And it did help- just not to the extent I'd wanted. She was able to walk past him within ten inches without him bopping her, although he still growled. While he was asleep, she'd sneak her way over so she could sleep two inches from him. The minute he realized she was there he would growl and walk off. (She wanted so badly to be friends with him.) At the end of the month I went to order another plug in. At that point I realized there was a new formulation, Multicat. It sounded like what we needed, so I ordered it. It took a solid week for the Multicat to start working. (I've seen the original start to work within eight hours.) In that week, the effects of the Comfort Zone wore off and the older cat went back to constant growling. He even smacked her a time or two. It was quite disheartening. Then the Multicat kicked in. We were shocked when he not only let her walk up to him, but licked her forehead a few times. A month later, they are playing- both chasing each other up and down the hall and wrestling. The older cat now calls the kitten for afternoon naps and playtime. They mutually groom, sleep near each other, eat a foot apart and use each other's litter box without a fuss. I am very pleased with the results and reccomend it highly! The next time we add a new cat to the house, I think we'll use both to get the quick relief from the Comfort Zone and the we-are-family Multicat relief when it kicks in. Do remember each plug-in diffuser only treats a certain amount of space. Be sure you get enough to ensure that there is adequate coverage throughout the home.
