Ok, only a four star right now because I just got it. First off, it popped up to 10 inches almost immediately. Second, I see some people complain about foam mattress corners no filling out. People if you kind of tug on the foam underneath the cover and straighten out the cover, since this one is removable, then they should pretty much fill out completely. Now for that cover, it's amazing. I figured it would be so so and that wouldn't really matter because it will have a fitted sheet over it, but now I almost don't want to put on because the cover is so nice. I am very impressed with the "viscolatex" layer. Again, I thought "eh it'll probably bounce back a little faster than memory foam." I was wrong. I tried out latex mattresses and it acts pretty much the same way. I can't wait to spend the night on it. It has the perfect amount of cushion and firmness. Now, I'm only 5'9" and 145lbs on a good day so if you are 230 you may compress the soft layers and get down to the really firm base. A 12-inch mattress would probably be better for you. There is little to no smell to it as well. I thought there was going to be because I could smell it coming from the box, but when I got the mattress out the only way I can smell anything is to stick my nose to it. Will report more in the future. Update: This may seem strange to people given the 4-star review, but I ended up not keeping the mattress. This has nothing at all to do with the quality of the mattress. I am extremely impressed to see such a quality product for this price. I'm giving up the mattress because it is just a bit too firm for me which I knew was a possibility. Back and stomach sleeping is awesome on it, but I do some side sleeping too. Sleeping on my side is good all around except one caveat, It get's too firm on my hips. I'm pretty thin and bony so I don't have a lot of my own cushion there so when viscolatex foam presses into me just a little too much. I am really disappointed with that because I like everything else about the mattress. Again, this is nothing against the mattress or its quality. I received exactly the product that is advertised here. It's just one of those, you don't really know until you know, things. Even if I would have gone to a store and tried it I would be in the same boat because I didn't really notice there was too much pressure until 30 minutes into laying on it. It does sleep a little warm when I am on my stomach but no more so than any other foam mattress. I have a feeling that if I kept it and broke it in for a month it would be just fine but then I would risk not getting a refund. Side note: I went online to use Amazon's live chat support to get the return going with the large items department. Initially, they offered a 25% refund and I could keep the item. I told them that I appreciated that, and I would love to keep it to avoid doing all this since I'll probably end up without a mattress for a few days while this one is shipped back and the one I just ordered is being shipped to me., but it's just not going to work for me. The next thing that pops on the screen said: "the full refund for the item and shipping cost will be refunded to your original method of purchase in 2-3 days and you can keep the item." What!?! Even though I could read it again and again, I had to ask her to repeat that just to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. Nope, she told me I could keep it or dispose of it once when I get a new mattress. I was blown away by the customer service I just received. Obviously, Amazon can't resell a used mattress, but what mattress store or company, for that matter, is going to let you keep their mattress and give you a full refund. If that were the case then everyone would be getting free mattresses. So because they let me keep it for free I offered it up for free to a friend that was also in need of a new mattress. So Amazon, you inadvertently made two people very happy with one item. It wasn't like Amazon made a mistake or there was something wrong with the mattress, or even that it was super uncomfortable for me. In reality, I am just being super picky, but Amazon didn't want me to have to sleep on the couch for a few days, which would have been far worse than sleeping on this mattress while I wait for another mattress. IF THAT ISN'T GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS.
