I didn't have high hopes for this mattress before i got it. the price was low, and at the advertised 5" thick, it just didn't seem like it should be sturdy or thick enough to be comfortable. I was wrong on all counts, happily. As a disclosure, i don't generally like memory foam, and like very firm mattresses, so if you are a feathery-soft-squish-into-your-mattress-loving person, i'm not sure this will be for you. The mattress came rolled up and packaged in a large white fabric-ish tube (one use, disposable, cuz u are instructed to literally rip, not cut, it open), and the mattress is vacuum squished flat in a plastic bag. you cut the plastic bag open, and the vacuum seal breaks to allow air back into the mattress. The instructions say to allow it to unfurl in place for 48 hours. Sadly (cuz now i have to move it), i put this on my living room floor, and it really expands!- it looked so little in the tube by comparison... Within 10 minutes of me taking it out of the plastic, it had grown to the full 5" in height. You can see the sequence in the photos as the mattress gets nearly as high as the dollar bill, and slightly over 5". The mattress has a nicely fuzzy/soft, removable cover which is zippered around three full edges of the bottom for easy removal, and the metal head of the zipper is thoughtfully tucked into a fabric "tunnel" of sorts, so that you can't rip any covers or sheets with the metal part hanging out.A peek inside the cover shows an inner gauze holding together the 4" foam layer (yellow) with the 1" "Cool Gel" memory foam (blue). i couldn't tell about the "Cool Gel" part, as it felt neither gel-ish nor particularly cool, but it does feel like 1" of fairly high quality memory foam on a firm base of heavy duty firm upholstery-type foam. All together, this feels great to lay on, and supports my back while providing enough cushion to cuddle your shape. This is an excellent mattress, and absolutely worth the cost. i would not hesitate to let my guests sleep on this, and it's a big step up from typical sleeper sofa mattresses. i would even use this as a regular mattress for daily use. i can't say yet as to how well it will hold up over time, but i'll update in the future.. btw- for those of you who are sensitive to chemical smells- this is much less stinky out of the pack than other memory foam products my family has owned. it has a very mild, much less than new car type smell, and i didn't feel the need to open every window.
