I have worked with several different types of decorative or special-occasion lights but this is the first set of LED strip lights I have used and I have learned a bit as I have worked with them. Overall I have had a good experience with them. Please note: In the video I have attached to this review it looks like the lights are pulsing but they are not. My camcorder freaked out a bit with the lights and constantly tried to adjust the level which caused the pulsing effect. The lights come on a spool, in a long ribbon of gel-encased LEDs that are connected in groups of three. Each end of the strip has a power attachment plug so that they can be plugged in to an AC power supply on one end and strung together with another set of lights on the other. So, with multiple sets you can have a potentially very long single string of lights. These smell awful, I will say that up front. The odor coming off of these lights is very reminiscent of formaldehyde. That is the main negative I have found with these lights. The light ribbon has an adhesive back to them and they can be permanently affixed as desired. I am a little hesitant to stick them anywhere though as once I do so I am not sure if the adhesive will hold them in place if I choose to move them. I know there are ways around this, but that's just the thought that comes to mind. To operate these lights you need to have the remote that comes with the set and it brings to bear a good many functions. You can change the color, strobe, fade, brightness and more on this string of lights. Not that all of the lights change together - you are not going to see multiple colors simultaneously. The one issue I have with these lights is that they come with minimal instruction. Almost everything can be figured out without effort, but the remote has programmable buttons and it may not be intuitive at first to know how to make the adjustments. I did manage to figure it out, but it took a few tried before I realized what the extra buttons on the remote do and what they are for. This is not enough to pan this product by any means - the majority of people will likely be very satisfied. I am content with these lights and I intend to use them for decorating at Christmastime.
