About the period sex claims: What no other review seems to mention!
I have been using Softcup since it was called "Instead" and, much to my dismay, liked it way better than the reusable menstrual cups I had tried. I hated that they were not reusable, knowing that they would just end up as landfill. On top of that, one of the main upsides of menstrual discs is the minimal-mess period sex. (I won't call it mess-free because that was never exactly the case with Softcups.) However, my fiancé often found the hard plastic rim to be pinchy and uncomfortable to navigate around to enjoy that benefit. (Not that it stopped us from doing so anyway. LOL)
Many folks have complained about the rim of Ziggy being too soft/flexible making insertion difficult but that was a risk I was willing to take to smooth the ouch factor from our menstrual menageries.
I received my Ziggy on day 4 (of, usually, 6) of my period. Exactly what I had hoped would happen so I could try it without worrying about having a massive leakage distaster on my heavy days while I tried out a new cup/disc. To open the hard plastic container, you have to remove the sticker on top of the clamshell packaging and it'll open right up.
I boiled it and inserted it that night; not a single drop of leakage yet. (Granted we're on day 6 now, so the odds are slim anyway. I hope to update this next month after I've experienced heavy days with my Ziggy.) And last night, my soon-to-be-husband and I got the opportunity to test out the softer, hopefully pinch-free, rim and...
OMG LADIES -- it was spectacular. It could be my imagination but I honestly think it even IMPROVED my sensation, adding just a bit of extra pressure in the right places. I could feel it pressed against the front of my pubic bone, but not nearly unpleasant enough to outweigh the pros. And he said he could barely feel it; no pain at all.
As a note to the folks concerned by the complaints about the flexible rim and difficulty with insertion, bearing down while slowly inserting the Ziggy helps a lot. And DON'T be afraid to mash the rim up and behind your pubic bone. Due to the slightly oblong shape, it did take a bit more finagling to fit it back there, but as long as it isn't folded in on itself, it seems to create a perfectly solid seal and I don't even notice it's there!
I am SO happy with this purchase. Taking a chance on a menstrual cup/disc that's as new to the market as this one is scary, but it was so worth the leap in faith in my opinion! Yay for eco-friendly period protection and pain-free, mess-free period sex!
EDIT: As far as my heavy day 2 and 3, I still find I need to empty it every 1 - 1.5 hours just like I did the Softcup. And sex on those days is no less messy than Softcup. That said, even with it not necessarily being "better" than Softcup in day-to-day functionality, it STILL is a reusable product that isn't adding to landfills so I'm still a huge fan and very happy with my purchase!
