This WILL WORK WITH MOST SMARTBULBS! Phillips cut off functionality with 3 party bulbs momentarily but pulled a quick 180 when the masses showed up at their doorstep with torches and pitchforks. The white hue bulbs are only $15.00 now so there is really no cost savings anymore anyways, also the hue bulbs are superior in my opinion. The second generation bulbs CAN BE CONTROLLED FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD! You do not need to be connected to your home network, any internet connection will do you just need to log into/create a my hue account through your app when you're setting things up. Additionally, if you are an Apple user and have an Appletv 3rd generation or higher on your home network then you can also use Siri to control the lights from anywhere without using the hue app. Without the Appletv you need to be home to use Siri to control the lights, but it works great, just use words she understands easily to name your scenes. NINJA BONUS: Leave an old iphone/ipad/ipod constantly plugged in somewhere convienient, enable "hey siri" in the settings and now all your lights are voice controlled. The Hue is the best smart bulb system out there right now. Stay away from the colored bulbs, which you don't really need, and it's very affordable too. Just 5 years ago we spent $10k on a huge hard wired lighting control system for a large restaurant which was a bear to program. It's crazy to think we can do that same restaurant today with these bulbs 100 times better, 100 times easier for like $750 bucks!
