Full review after 2 years of abuse
For the price it's really 5* but I put 4 because it has some minor flaws that should be fixed. As it gets used and the plastic gets dirty and roughed up, it gets really hard to take apart attachments. This improves if u clean it good but it's still a bit difficult. The worst part about that though is while you're straining to get the piece off the mouth (for lack of a better term), the middle where the dirt is contained pops open and spills everywhere. A better latch there would be a great inexpensive upgrade. You get used to working around it for the most part but it takes a lot of just-so-ness. Also, it falls over way too easily. You pretty much can't leave it standing on its own, you have to always prop it, lay it down or hang it, otherwise, a cricket a mile away will fart and down it goes with a SLAM. It's hard to remember this when you're focused on your mess and even after a couple years of daily use, we still hear it crash on a regular. Buuut...the good news is, you can slam it on the ground every day for a couple of years and it still runs great! We ended up buying a second this year because we rescue a lot of cats and we ended up vacuuming a lot of loose litter that got kicked out of the box and we just didn't want to be spreading that wonderful air all over the dining room. Although the filtration on it is good enough, cheap and simple as it is, that I can't hardly smell it coming out at all, even with my bloodhound nose. I don't know how good it works on carpet and thick rugs, I'm guessing they wouldn't get as deep as a regular strong vac. But for flat rugs and hard floors, u can't beat these cheap little monsters. They are so affordable, they've lasted longer than most vacuums of any kind that I've had, including robots and dust busters. They are perfect for quick spills but can also do the whole house a lot faster than u would think. I love that u can use it like a handheld too. Ive had stronger vacs but they get up everything on hard floors... except they don't do as good on baseboards as robot vacs with the spinning brush sticking out do. The outside edge suction isn't that great but they get everything that matters. The best thing about it, for those of us with spare parts in our backs is that they are perfectly featherweight. I've had one for a couple years now and I've abused the heck out of it. It gets used every day on most of this 2 story house, has sucked a ton of cat litter which really gunks it up bad (no not getting up the whole tootsie roll, it's basically clean litter, though certainly guilty by association, that got kicked out when they were scratching or jumping out but it's still super dusty and gummy right out of the can), also every day my special needs son's doritos chunks that didn't make it to the promised land and tons of pet and people hair. We do regular cleaning and emptying but at the bare minimum that our laziness and general lack of interest will allow. Thing still runs pretty strong and pretty clean. I've seen many vacuums 4 times the price pale in comparison. I will say though that after we got the new one, it is more enjoyable to use, it just handles, glides and turns a little better cuz the wheels aren't all gunked up yet, this suction is a little stronger, smells a tiny bit cleaner and sounds like it's running a little easier. But I mean marginally noticeable difference. The fact that the old one compares so well at this point, after all we've done to it, how flippin easy it's been to use and maintain and how much it cost to begin with, I would definitely recommend it. And again, if you have any health concerns and need something easy or just want something a little kid can handle... and yeah add that to the list of abuses, my other son has been using it every day since he was 7... that can't be good for it. The fact that this is so lightweight and easy to handle is a really valuable aspect. Even as little as it is, I can do the entire upstairs- 3 bed, 2 bath and hallway in 15 minutes. And it's very easy on the stairs, I can even let my son do the stairs without worrying that the weight will knock him off balance and he can carry it up the stairs himself. Yes... clean those stairs, slave... I mean... son. Its a good buy is what I'm saying. You're welcome.
