I've owned the ProTac HL3 for about 8 months now and I love it. It's small and it has 1100 lumens. The HL3 has a long beam distance the only con is that you cannot use rechargeable batteries and it uses 3 CR 123 batteries and they go by quick. When I heard about the ProTac HL4 and that you'll be able to use rechargeable batteries I immediately pre ordered the HL4. Now that I've received it, I am a little disappointed in the flashlight. Seeing that it was going to have 2200 lumens, twice as much as the HL3. The HL4 is only slightly brighter than the HL3. However the HL4 has a wider area of light as oppose to the HL3. It's still a great flashlight, especially if you don't like wasting money on purchasing cr123 batteries. As for its size you can see in the picture that the HL4 is much bigger and harder to fit in most pockets.
