People are intrinsically stupid.
Well, Amazon asked "what's most important to know" for this review's headline, and that's the truth. Using the locking mechanisms on these (or any) trekking poles is pretty much a no-brainer, if you read the instructions. And the company, God love 'em, gives you a healthy dose of "HERE'S WHAT TO DO" on their Amazon listing, via follow-up email (twice), on their website, on YouTube, and in the product packaging. Not only does it get them off the hook, but let's face it, it's a safety issue if you screw up. And there's really no way you can screw up if you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Now that that's out of the way, these poles are great. Super-easy to adjust on the fly, very supportive, comfortable grips, plenty of accessories, functional bag that can strap on your backpack, and cool colors to boot. The poles themselves are light, very sturdy, fold up quickly, and the straps are also easy to adjust. We took these poles out on a relatively flat ~9-mile hike to get familiar with using them. My partner struggles with uphill grades, and noticed an immediate difference in both leg and knee support. I'm more like a cat--I can scramble up any hill, but coming back down freaks me out and I start yowling like crazy. Using these poles was like having an extra set of legs to steady me while traversing descents. The price is right, the customer service outstanding, and the product is high-quality. Do yourself a favor and get these trekking poles. And read the instructions.
