I'm a physician, and I use one of these on any day I take either Tylenol or a motrin like product. This same compound is used in an IV form in the ER to protect your liver from damage from an overdose of Tylenol, and it is used in at least some hospitals before during and after Cardiac Catheterizations to protect the kidneys from damage from the iodine dye used for visualizing the blood flow in the coronary arteries.
