I Am REALLY Excited To Have This Laptop/Tablet Hybrid. It is Even BETTER Than I Hoped For!!!
(WARNING- This is an in depth review of this laptop. My goal is to help those who are truly interested in making informed buying decisions. This is done from an experiential point of view of most consumers and not highly technical. If you prefer a shorter summary, see paragraph titled, THE BOTTOM LINE)
WHAT IS THIS LAPTOP LIKE?
I have had a lot of different tablets, laptops, desktops, and have built my own systems over the years. One thing I have not had is a hybrid laptop which changes from tablet to laptop and back again. I was not too fond of a 15 inch size as I tend to like smaller laptops, but I was willing to try. I am SO glad I did.
COVERING/CASE OF LAPTOP
This laptop is a thin profile, but feels very substantial. The bottom does not have tiny little rubber feet like some HP professional laptops I have had, but it has solid large rubberized pads that are 1 inch by a half inch. There are a decent amount of vents in the bottom as well. The top is a slightly textured metallic top (etched look) and not shiny. The hinges are very strong and hold the screen in a variety of directions solidly. They do not budge until I move them again.
SIZE
I am amazed that this is the first 15 inch laptop that I actually enjoy using! The size and way that it works makes it fantastic for me. I can tilt the screen in any direction and use my hands on the screen or keyboard in laptop mode which is a pleasure.
KEYBOARD
The keyboard is soft touch and rubberized key-wise. As soon as I touch the keys, a back light comes up so that I can see what I am doing. The back light goes out in 15 seconds or so when the keys are not being pressed. There is a full numerical keyboard and plenty of room between keys for my medium sized fingertips. It is also spaced well for those who have longer nails.
SCREEN
The screen is shiny. It doubles as a screen as well as touchscreen. The view on the screen is fabulous as it has a full HD 1080 resolution. The colors are not as intense as the Saumsung Galaxy Tab S2, which is one of the most amazing color screens I have worked with. Since I am a person who likes color, I like color intensity in my screens. However, this screen is fine and is by no means pale, it is just not quite as intense as I am used to.
TOUCHSCREEN
When you flip the keyboard back, the touchscreen clicks into place. You are given the option to choose the touchscreen if you want so there are no mistakes. As a tablet, I have found that it is very accurate and works quite well. I have put it through a lot and so far, I have only had a few instances where I was frustrated for a second, but it was easy to correct.
OPERATION
This turns on so fast it is almost jolting. My laptops, though usually professional level, often take quite a bit to boot up. This one, however is so quick it always surprises everyone here.
As for operations, I have found this to be a very fast and easy to use system. Load up is quick and the only problems I have from time to time are due to wireless and not really the fault of the laptop.
Turning it off sometimes makes me laugh out loud. Press button. BAM! It’s off.
WINDOWS 10
I am not a fan of Windows 10. But unfortunately that is pretty much the choice for any laptop at this point. This laptop seems to handle it very well.
GAMES
Because Windows 10 is not as game friendly as previous operating systems, I have not had the time to mess around with games with this. I have avoided Windows 10 until now, so I have not figured out what if any games will work with this. I will update when I do.
RUN TIME
Charging seems to take only a few hours for a full charge. The run time varies between 3 and 5 hours depending on what I am doing. I will say this- I rarely run it into the ground in one sitting, which makes it very helpful for me.
VIDEO
Runs very smooth on here. Using a DVD player means I have to use the USB port to run my independent unit and be in a stable position to do so. Works well. Beautiful to watch.
USB PORTS AND SD READER
I have found the USB ports to work very well. No problems to this point. Load up is fast. Using the SD reader is also a pleasure. The photos load up fast and due to the high resolution screen viewing them is really detailed and helpful. I have not installed professional graphics software yet to test this system for photo editing.
TOUCH PAD (AND FRUSTRATION)
The touch pad on this laptop is a bit challenging to use. There is a finger reader which I do not use, but the buttons are hidden in the pad itself and not two different buttons. The pad is pretty accurate as far as tracking. The only problem I have is location. When I rest my left hand on the rest area, sometimes it interferes with the touch pad and causes things to go a bit crazy at times. I am not pressing ON the touch pad, just in the area next to it.
SOUND
The sound is not tinny or awful. I find that it is sufficient for most of the applications I want to use it for. If I prefer to have a better sound, I use my Soundbot speaker and that gives me even better sound for movies and videos.
COMMENTS
I have to say that although the touch pad situation does frustrate me now and then, I do love this laptop. I have always wanted a hybrid because since I started using tablets, I would always catch myself touching the screen when I was using one of the household laptops and it was frustrating.
This unit is really nice. It is so fast and easy to use, it surprises me, honestly. It is so easy to switch between tablet and laptop modes and I find it a pleasure to work with for photos and movies.
THE BOTTOM LINE
This hybrid is VERY fast, easy to use, and boots up and shuts down so fast it is startling. The screen is a pleasure to look at, although not as color saturated as Samsung can be. So far, USB and SD works great. Sound is good enough for most applications. This is easy to use and not at all cumbersome. I love that I can touch the screen even in laptop mode if I am frustrated with the touch pad. I am very happy with this laptop/tablet hybrid.
RATING
FIVE STARS! I will update if I have anything else to add in the future, but at this point, I am very happy with this.
