I have been toying with the idea of using a calibrated tamper for some time now, and after careful deliberation, I am glad I did. On my very first try, I grounded my coffee (16 grams) leveled out my double shot basket, and used the Luxe tamper . Is it a perfect 30 pounds of torque? Who cares honestly, its all about the outcome. If I can pull a perfect shot my first try, and just need to worry about the grind setting, since the amount should stay pretty consistent, then there is less variables to deal with, hence a better expresso shot every time. Id say thats worth the 30 bucks spent, in order to save from wasting coffee on bad shots.
