Truly great quality black soap
I absolutely adore natural soap and make natural soap myself but African black soap is special. It isn't a process that I can easily replicate at home since it is made very different than standard soapmaking.
I've tried fake African black soap, which at the time I didn't know wasn't the real stuff. I did eventually get to try a bar of the real deal and this, is definitely the real deal.
African black soap is absolutely wonderful for your skin and is nourishing and not drying when used right! I'll explain later what I mean by used right and I hope I'm able to help others make this pound last a long time and be wonderful for their skin.
The positives of this black soap:
1. Truly a pound if not a little over. I've included a picture to show that this does in fact include a pound (16 oz) of product and a little bit more. This is so important because I've bought products that state one pound or a certain oz. And it turns out to be just under or at worst, significantly under.
2. Soft and absolutely fresh. This soap is definitely fresh. You can feel that it is soft and not rock hard like some old black soap can look.
3. Fragrance free. I love the fact that this does not have a horrible fragrance added because I believe it is much better for your skin for it to be fragrance free. It has a light smell but this is from the ingredients this soap is made of. Slightly nutty and maybe a hint of earthy if your nose is good enough to pick it up.
4. Organic and fair trade. Now, some people might not care too much about this but it is such a great thing for the people who make this product to be paid a living wage and fair trade policies allow this! And on top of it, this product is organic. No pesticide residues all over your skin. This is a big win win in my book.
5. Great quality. Honestly, if you've used African black soap before you can tell the quality differences in different brands. Some are just okay and some are sub par. Others like this one rock.
The negatives of this soap:
1. Slight crumbling. This was something I experienced in my pound of soap. You can actually just smash it back in to whatever bar size you cut. That might sound strange but that's how this soap works since it is very soft.
Tips on how to use this soap properly:
I want to state that the way you normally use soap isn't necessarily the best way to use this soap. If you want it to last long and you want a smooth and not harsh feeling on your skin.
For a nice and light wash for your body, face, etc make a simple liquid soap!
I've shown a picture on how mine came out but here is a quick "recipe" of sorts: use a clean soap dispensing container or even a glass mason jar, fill with distilled or purified water, a small chunk of black soap. Mix these and leave for a day in the dispenser. The next day shake it up and use. You'll see it makes the soap last super long and it works excellent, the suds are surprisingly awesome.
For use without making a liquid soap:
Take off a tiny piece with your hand and use it then whatever is left after use, push it back in to the bar of soap. This might sound super weird but I promise, it works excellent and you really don't need much of the soap and in doing this you save your bar from weeping / disintegrating. It is a soft soap so, leaving a full bar in the shower isn't a good idea since it has a high chance of just going to mush / liquid.
I was able to get this absolutely awesome soap as a sample for my honest review and all of this is my opinion after using it for over a week. I never guarantee a positive review and I'm in no way paid.
Overall, I recommend this soap to anyone who wants to try African black soap out and wants a really high quality one. I hope this helped anyone reading this.
