Test-fry: Viva Turbo vs. Avance Viva
Welcome to the air-fryoff championship bout between the Avance Viva (in red) vs. the Viva Turbo (in black). The not-so-secret ingredients are chicken wings, flour, spices, and cooking spray. Who will reign supreme? Will it be the grand daddy original Philips airfryer or its replacement model? Read on to find out... First, the two contenders are not so different in size contrary to what Philips says. The Avance is slightly taller but the footprint of the both are about the same, with the Turbo only smaller by perhaps a hair. This is not so unexpected since basket size is about the same. However, since the Avance actually provides a little more room between your food and the heating element (to avoid smokes) and there is more space for hot air to circulate under your food (for more even cooks); round one goes to the Avance! Second, although the two are rated exactly the same at 1425 watts, the top temperature of the Turbo is slightly higher at 400F vs 390F (perhaps due to the closer heating element). In practice, the wing dings both came out looking about near identical; so round two is tied. Third, how about clean up? Wait, what is this new red tab on the handle on the Turbo that says "pull"? What happens when you pull...? Whoa, the whole basket falls apart (in a good way) for ease of cleaning! The handle on the Turbo is shorter than the Avance so it does get a little hotter to handle, but the MacGyver easy clean basket on the Turbo lands a knockout punch! This was a close match up but the new Turbo with its gifted knockout basket wins the bout!
