Changed a Bit, but I Get It
So yeah, it's not 100% like the books. It made some pretty significant changes, and quite a few that I'm never going to appreciate. In fact, there's quite a bit I want to reach through the screen and *slap* Rafe for changing. Seriously dude, the fridging trope? Really? Didn't Deadpool 2 teach you that's played out, useless, and stupid? We don't need that to drive emotional trauma.
So if I'm upset with that, why 5 stars? Because I get it. I get that it's not a book. We don't have page upon page upon page up on page to tell us that "This character is a rapscallion with a heart of gold once you get to know him," or that "this character is a silent brooding type and is always careful because he might hurt someone," in books, it takes *pages* to show that, which RJ did. On screen, you have between seconds and minutes. And the people reviewing this? Most of 'em don't get that.
Yes, there were other things changed. Oh my giddy aunt, Rand is KISSING his girlfriend. OH NO THE WORLD WILL END. It's 2021. Welcome to a TV Show. Get over it.
It's not a 1:1 telling. It's not a 1:2 telling. Things are changed because they've got 8 hours to tell what it takes a 24 hour AUDIO book to do. Think about that. They're putting 24 hours of audio book into 8 hours of screentime. Yeah.
Oh, and the people saying Pike is too OLD? Just don't even. If you gave it 1 star because of that, you weren't here for the show anyway, you were here to complain.
And to everyone giving it 1 star because of the casting choices not being lily white? Shove off. All the way off. Keep shoving off until you get back here. And when you do get back here, SHOVE OFF AGAIN.
