Oontz XL vs Big Jambox vs Bose Soundlink Mini
I own the original ultra-portable Cambridge Soundworks Oontz (best ultra-portable speakers under $150) so this one was a must buy for me.
When I first bought it I felt somewhat let down as I had very high expectations for it. The sound didn't quite as good (probably because I'm so used to listening to bookshelf speakers)...however after several hours of breaking in the sound got a lot better. I tested the unit with my high-end Cowon Mp3 player thru AUX Port (better than bluetooth) and damn it sounded clear with nice bass.I even use it on my laptop with my high-end Dragonfly DAC (Computer Sound Card for those who don't know what a DAC is) and it sounded amazing.
I wanted to compare this portable with much more expensive portable speakers...naming Big Jambox and Bose Minilink. The Big Jambox sounds nice although its sounds somewhat boomy to me. Some people may prefer this type of sound so if you're that person you'd like the Jambox. The bose mini packs a bunch of bass (the most of the three) for its size and sounded somewhat too warm, so this doesn't really sound natural to me although it has that unique sound experience. The weakness of the Bose Mini is that, because it's an ultra-portable size speaker, the sound is not as immersive as the other two. After several hours of listening the Oontz XL has the best clarity of them all. In terms of bass the Big Jambox is probably the winner (probably due to its size since it is the biggest out of the three) although the Bose Mini offers very nice and clean bass for its size. I prefer clarity in my music so Oontz XL is the overall winner.
Conclusion:
Clarity: Oontz XL
Bass: Bose Mini
Loudness: Big Jambox; Boss Mini is easily the weakest of the three
Size: Bose Mini (ultra-portable)
Design: Bose Mini (very nice aluminum and durable feel)
Value: Easily Oontz XL ($80 on Amazon!)
Overall Performance: Oontz XL
Why you should buy the Oontz XL?
Super cheap in price and best overall sound quality. Cannot hurt your wallet, win-win situation.
Why you should buy the Bose Mini?
If you like the aluminum design and the superb portability. Punchy bass! If you're willing to spend $200 for a brand name.
Why you should buy the Big Jambox?
If you want loudness with that Boomy bass sound.. And if you don't care about spending $250-$300.
I see no real reason to buy the Big Jambox unless you can find one for around $150. The Bose Mini offers a very unique sounding experiencing but I still think $200 is too high for what you get out of it. I got the Oontz for $80 total and for that price...it easily beats Bose Mini ($200) and Big Jambox ($300)and I definitely think the Oontz XL sounds the best out of the three.
Winner: Easily Oontz XL
