Keeps the Bad Guys Out, Keeps the Good Guys In!
We purchased this item not so much to keep people out, but instead… to keep people in. You see, we’ve got an adventurous two year old with a spirit like Indiana Jones. He climbs, scales, jumps, and on rare occasions—even makes daring escapes from native tribes, arrows and large boulders. Once our little boy was upwardly mobile, he developed a keen interest in the outside world, only to be foiled repeatedly by a deadbolt that he was too short to reach. After a few months, and plenty of Brawndo, he finally achieved his lifelong goal of growing tall enough to lock and unlock the door by himself. As we love him, and don’t want him completely out of the house for another 16 years or so, we purchased this smooth-operating reinforcement lock to keep him at bay, and I absolutely love it. The ‘Satin Nickel’ finish matches our door handle and hardware perfectly, and the sleek design of this product looks great mounted on the doorframe. Install from start to finish took around 20 minutes. The instructions were clear and concise, though if you plan on using the included 3” screws, I’ll say that pre-measuring and drilling pilot holes is a must! You can likely install this lock with a screwdriver if you intend to use smaller screws, but you’ll save yourself a lot of headache (and hand-ache!) using a power drill. The only downside I’ve encountered thus far with this item, is that my wife has errantly locked me out of the house on more than one occasion. I specifically recall one instance when I was out front working, and I remembered the game was on; I hustled back into the house to check the score—and I ended up mashing my face into the door at relatively high speed, happily my team won (so it was totally/mostly worth it)! That event also served as a bit of an unplanned, unintended stress-test on the product, and I’m glad to stay the door didn’t give an inch. As far as keeping it clean, we just use a damp cloth to keep the lock looking like new. The back side of the stopper is made of black rubber (pictured), and while we do occasionally end up with some of that residue transferring to the door, it wipes clean easily and without mess. All told, whether you’re looking to keep the bad guys out, or the good guys in, I think this is a great buy! Feel free to leave me a comment or question, I’m happy to add anything else you’d like to know about the product. Thanks for taking the time to read my review, hopefully this information was useful!
