Warm, lofty and good value, but the cloth makes crinkling noise and does not feel like 1200TC cotton.
My wife wanted a king-sized comforter after we got married. Apparently, _someone_ is a blanket hog and a queen sized comforter just wouldn't cut it. I've never paid much attention to what my comforters were made of, but apparently, I've been using down alternative comforters most of my life. My wife had a down comforter in the past and she loved it. Plus, she gets cold easily at night. Even though down comforters are 2-3x more expensive, I felt a good set would hopefully last a lifetime. Based on the reviews, I purchased this down comforter. I'm happy with it, but not thrilled.
The Good:
My wife loves it. It takes a bit of fluffing up initially after taking it out of the bag, but it stays nice and fluffy in the few weeks that I've had it. It's clean, unlike the picture from one reviewer. The stitching looks solid and it has loops for a duvet cover. It hasn't leaked at all and none of the down pokes out. And most importantly, it's warm. I never had trouble with being cold with a down alternative comforter, but this was noticeably warmer than my previous comforter. My wife hasn't complained about feeling cold since we got it. The comforter is a tad lighter than my down alternative one and my wife loves that it's relatively lightweight. I personally like my comforters with a little weight, but this was substantial enough for me.
The Bad:
As mentioned in a few reviews, the comforter is noisy. The cloth makes a crinkling sound that sounds a bit like crinkling a ziploc bag. It doesn't bother my wife at all. I can sleep through it and get used to the crinkling, but it annoys me to know that it's there. I went to all my other comforters and ruffled them up to see if they make a similar sound and none of them do. It also leads me to believe that the cloth is not cotton, at least not 1200 thread count 100% Egyptian cotton. To give some perspective, high quality Egyptian cotton is around 600 thread count. Premium Egyptian cotton is usually 800-1000 thread count. Those sheets and duvet covers alone cost the price of this entire down comforter. I like a good deal, but I realize that something's got to give at the current price point. The only time you see 1200 thread count numbers on Amazon have been usually associated with polyester and blends (with misleading titles, like "1200 thread count Egyptian Quality" without ever saying "cotton"). I bought a 800 thread count duvet cover and it is noticeably softer, silkier and quieter than the cloth used on this comforter.
If you're a light sleeper and you toss around in bed a lot, this comforter might not be for you. But I've grown used to the crinkly sound, which is slightly less crinkly-sounding with a duvet cover on it. Most importantly, my wife seems to like the comforter.
