This is the best egg-cooking gadget I found since my Oster egg cooker died, and it seems Oster is out of the egg-cooking gadget business. I purchased another brand before this one that cooked very well, but the egg piercer for hard-boiled eggs was a blunt plastic point on the bottom of an poorly designed measuring cup. When I made deviled eggs for a pot luck dinner and even though I was very careful, I threw 3 of 12 eggs down the sink drain because the plastic piercing point broke the egg rather than piercing a small hole. I researched Amazon and found this egg cooker. It has a sharp metal piercer on the bottom of a well designed measuring cup (for soft, medium, or hard boiled) and it turns off automatically like my old Oster (some reviewers said theirs did not believe theirs turned off automatically). I've made hard boiled eggs twice in the last month and broke no eggs when piercing the little vent hole. The vent hole helps to prevent cracking when the eggs are older. The only thing I don't particularly like is the charring when the water boils off. You are left with a sizeable burnt area in the bottom when the water boils off. It cleans off well with some soap on a damp sponge. To make it sparkle like new, I'll put in a plug for Bar Keeper's Friend that we use to revitalize all our stainless steel cookware. I added photos: burnt, washed, and clean. I like this, would buy it again, and I recommend it.
