Where are the rest of the stars?
I purchased this unit to put near my parrot's cage. I have to tell you, I have had at least four expensive units ($350-$700) over the past 25 years. The parrot is 20 years old, and he is the biggest reason I have to have an air purifier running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I have never seen one perform as well as this one.. never. When it first arrived, I couldn't wait to plug it in and get started. I knew I'd have to check the filter(s) within 2 or 3 days to see what all it was collecting. So I went ahead and plugged it in and put it about 2 feet from the cage. I ran it on manual at top speed to start the process. I literally watched the little particles run towards the unit. I was watching while the sun was beaming in, so I could observe the results better. What I really like the most is the fact that the dust is drawn in from the bottom of the unit, near the floor... where dust settles. That makes PERFECT sense to me. At the top in the back, the clean air blows out to continue circulating the air. The fact that it's nice looking is wonderful, but honestly... it could look like a fire hydrant, and I wouldn't care. I just needed one that worked. For two days, I noticed that I didn't have to sweep as often around the cage.. and when I did sweep, the little downy feathers would get sucked up by the Rabbit if they got within 8 inches of the bottom. Two days pass and I took the unit outside to see what all was collected. I was amazed. The top filter of the layers was full of the bigger feathers, and lots of fine, fine dust. The second filter (charcoal) had even finer particles... but that is as far back as the dust went. The Hepa filter had none. I tapped all three filters on the ground to get the big stuff off, then vacuumed them all and put them back. I do check it now weekly since I've got such a messy boy, but it only takes a minute at most. The design could not be more perfect. To speed up the air cleaning process I have a small hand held cordless blower that I'll stir up the air in the room. It takes all of 10 seconds to run down the drapes or mini blinds. Here's what I don't really understand. As awful as the air quality was when I first set it up, when set to "auto" it went on the lowest setting and stayed there for an hour. It should have been sensed the extremely poor air quality. I turned on the ionizer, and it is 100% odorless. The only way I can tell it's on is there is a light that lets me know. I'm not sure about that either. What I do know is I had medium expectations, and this machine operates like a work horse. I've had it maybe 5 weeks. Two more things: #1. This wasn't a free test unit. I bought this myself not knowing what to expect. #2. I've never written such a long review.
