But what happened to the necklace?!
An extremely well-written memoir. A page-turner. I couldn't wait to read this book each night to see what would happen next. I couldn't believe the amount of self-centeredness, narcissism, and emotional blackmail the author's flamboyant mother inflicted on the author, beginning at the tender age of 14. For years, the mother asks her daughter to keep secret the mother's affair with her husband's best friend. The mother insists on treating the author as a best-friend and confidante, instead of protecting her daughter as a mother should. A special, family heirloom necklace figures prominently in this story. I'm not really sure what hapoened to it. My only criticism of the book is that the last few chapters seem to gloss over years of tbe author's life too fast and without the details offered in the rest of the book.
