These nuts work great in hot water
I bought these as an alternative to chemical laundry detergent, which has a lot of chemicals that cause cancer. I've been learning how to make my own cleaning products but I had yet to make my own laundry detergent or my own dish soap. Unbeknownst to me at the time that I bought these, I was not only going to be solving both those issues with these products and so much more!
These nuts work great in hot water. They suggest if you're using cold water, to soak the nuts in hot water for a few minutes before throwing them in the laundry. I never found time to do this and since I wash almost all my clothes in cold water, they weren't going to work for me with this method. I'm not boiling water before each load of laundry and I waste too much water letting the tap run hot, so I decided to look for another method. This lead me to one of the greatest natural cleaning product discoveries of my life...
Boil these babies. 15-20 nuts, six cups of water for 40 minutes, add a cup of water, boil for 30 minutes, add another cup of water and boil for another 30 minutes. I took an old tshirt, layed it over a strainer, and strained it, and I made 4 quarts of soap concentrate. I add about half a cup of vinegar for every quart and some essential oil for scent if I want, and that's my laundry soap. 1/4 to 1/2 a cup per load. I'm a waitress, a tom boy, I have dogs and its muddy this time of year. Everything comes out really clean. Add a little lavendar to your soap and wash your bed linens. It's heavenly.
I handwash my dishes, so I put this soap in a jar, add some orange peels for scent and extra cleaning and degreasing, & put about a half cup of soap in a shallow sink of hot water, and that's what I wash my dishes in. Even my glasses come out squeaky clean. To keep the sink of water clean, I rinse my dishes as if I was going to put them in a dishwasher, then I dip my sponge in the soapy water, not the dish. People use it for their hair, all purpose cleaner, windows. This company sells a concentrate, but I like to make my own. I've made about 6 quarts of this stuff, and used maybe 50 individual soap nuts, and I am less than a quarter of the way through the bag. You could probably use this for every cleaning need in your house and only go through a 4-5 lbs a year. You can save a ton of money and have a very natural safe effective way to clean anything.
