My review on these are mixed! They are my first pair of Rockports, and I find it strange that are NOT leather! Going back and reading the description, it does say "man made material"......so that is on me. The sole is a thick, sturdy nonslip synthetic. Well, all reviews reporting the ribbon between the toes is tight, are CORRECT! I think the problem is the angle of installation is off and slants too much. THE up side of that is, the shoe foes NOT flop on the foot making that horrid "flapping" noise. The "fix" for the poor positioning of the toe ribbon was to cut the heel strap off! I know.....ridiculous, but that allows less pressure on the foot to force it against the ribbon! Makes all the difference in the comfort! Because the top of the shoe encompasses the sides of your foot, it stays in place perfectly. The heel strap is not needed at all! Now for the fantastic part....the foot bed is extremely comfortable, cushy and sinks wonderfully, but maintains all support, including the heel! They are also very cute, there are tiny metal rivets in the design that give an added pizzazz. So, I do recommend them as long as you are prepared to cut the heel strap off if you need too. We should not need to alter a new shoe, I admit, but it is what it is and the price in n or bad. Hope this helps with your decision!
