The bad reviews are from people who don't know how to use this stuff
I have been using Fun-Tak for over 20 years and it is great for any project that requires a light weight, removable adhesive, ie hanging posters, photos or maps, preventing light weight items from moving on a shelf, or adhering a carved wooden snail to the side of a bookcase. 10 small balls of it, each less than half the size of my pinkie nail, are currently holding a 2'x 3' poster of Hokusai's "The Great Wave" over my computer desk as I write this review. It took me about 5 minutes to mount and it will stay there for years, if I wish. After a few weeks I noticed some sag as the poster stretched under gravity, which I corrected simply by smoothing it out from center to corners.
Those reviewers who complain about not being able to remove it clearly don't know how to use it. You do NOT pull away the item from the mounting surface creating fine strands. You slide a finger back behind the object and slowly pry the putty ball from the mounting surface onto the mounted item. If a small amount of putty sticks to the wall or item, just take the remaining putty ball and roll it back and forth over that surface with light pressure. Fun-Tak preferentially sticks to itself and will come right off after a few passes. I have done this on stucco walls with complete success. This is true even for items that have been mounted for several years. As with so much in life, success or failure is determined by proper technique.
A note on longevity. I have been reusing the same ball of Fun-Tak for over a dozen years through at least five different moves. It has pride of place stuck to the side of my refrigerator where it is always ready at a moments notice to assist in whatever decorating whim I may have, and I have many.
