Budget overbed table with pros and cons
Last Oct I bought another brand of this type of table for my aging mother. It was about $25 dollars more. It was so versatile and well built I decided to get one for myself to use with tablets and laptops while in bed. I ordered this budget brand for comparison:
Positives:
The instructions have been revised from the old reviews, it is now clear and straightforward. Assembly took 10-15 minutes max.
The frame’s build quality seems stable enough to hold up 20-25 pounds for an extended period.
Rolls smoothly on its included 2” castors.
Table top of 15x30 is generous for most items like laptops, tablets, food trays, etc.
Negatives;
Tabletop has no lip, no protective bumper for the edges.
Tabletop veneer doesn’t seem to be coated with enough protectant. If you spill any liquids on it, the pressed wood may expand and puff out of the edged seams.
Lever only works to lock down the position going DOWN ( the other brand locks it in both DOWN and UP positions ) This table is made so the upper adjustments are achieved with a slight upward pull, but hitting the table accidentally with your knees can cause it to move upwards, imagine hot soup or coffee sitting near the edge of the table, could be a bad scene.
While rolling the cart,the rod makes an annoying rattling sound within the column.
I’m giving it 4 stars because it’s still a stellar value for my needs, but there are models for $20 -25 more that’s built more robustly, with a dual lock height latch, edge protective bumper, and better tabletop thickness and stonger sealant.
