I'm a Cherokee
Boy, these recipes certainly brought back memories! I remember the good old days when my grandmother, a member of the Faux-Cherokee Tribe of western Virginia (by way of Southern France) used to dress up in her feathered headdress and make us cold omelets with crab meat. Grandma would recount the terrible days when our ancestors were abused by both white folk, who called them "windians" and, more painful still, by Cherokee who called them "pale-face" and "crazy white folks" and often beat them mercilessly. In fact, my maternal great grandfather "Looks-White-To-Me" whose English name was "Francois" was accosted and murdered by a band of Cherokee just outside of what is now Wheeling, West Virginia. They beat and murdered him while laughing at his protestations of Cherokee heritage and despite his unmistakable Cherokee physical traits of high cheekbones and, post-beating, deep-red skin. He was even an alcoholic, but still they wouldn't believe him. Well, thank heaven they wrote this book to preserve our cultural heritage from the white man.
