A rotary cutter sharpener that sharpens
New rotary cutter blades are incredibly sharp; unfortunately that sharpness does not last long. Within two or three hours of use, my blades show clear signs that the edge is dulling. I suppose the cost of good metal is high (if the price of good kitchen knives is any sign) and the metal in these rotary cutters have a short "ultra sharpness" life. I've tried several hand sharpeners; the instructions say twist the blade in them two or three times--won't help at all. Try 50 or 75 times and you'll see a difference in both the blade and your wrist. Enter the TrueSharp. First of all, this thing is loud, really loud. Think bench saw loud. Ear protectors were welcome. Does it sharpen. You bet! The instructions say one cannot achieve factory sharpness. True, but it's pretty close. Takes a couple of minutes, spares your wrist and you have a good, working blade for another two or three hours of use. Is it worth the cost? Depends. At about $5 a pop for one 45 mm blade, you could buy 10 new blades for the cost of this baby. When I'm doing a lot of sewing, I'll change a blade every 2/3 days. A month of blades will easily buy the sharpener for me. I haven't used the sharpener long enough to know how well it will last or continue sharpening. But at this stage, it's a real winner. Only four stars though till they quiet this thing down. guy
