We love the TV. It just has a few minor issues.
I bought this instead of going for a 4K edition TV. Bought this on June 23, 2015 and so I feel like I have spent enough time fiddling with this TV to write a review. Setup is fairly easy. Although, updating the software can take a while. You just have to be patient. I don't have cable TV and so I did not set up the channels. I only rely on the internet for my content, laptop or my 3D player. This TV is based on the Android OS; the same as a Nexus Player. I find the Nexus Player to be faster than the TV software. At times, Android lags and so I either restart the TV by unplugging it or I just switch to the player. The picture on this TV is Fantastic!!!!! We love watching our shows on it. No complaints here. I went on Rtings.com for the ideal tweaks but I didn't like them. Just adjust the settings to your liking. No serious clouding from the TV I purchased. There are no 3D glasses with this monitor. A minor issue and I don't know why Sony does not specifically mention which model type of 3D glasses to use in BOLD, CAPITAL LETTERS!!!. They do post it on the manual, except that it's on the last page, under optional accessories and the font is very tiny. I literally overlooked it when viewing the manual. I ended up buying the PS3 3D glasses which did not work. Frustrated, I ordered the Sony TDG-BT500A glasses through B&H Photo Video. In the meantime, I quickly went on the BestBuy website to view the reviews. Someone there ordered a pair of Xpand Glasses Lite RF for the TV. I bought a pair of them to test. They work without any issues. I seem to prefer the Sony glasses and my wife prefers the Xpand. We are keeping both types. The Sony glasses are not rechargeable, only the Xpand ones are. Once you have 3D content, you have to sift through the menu to activate it. It is annoying but I have managed to set it up pretty fast now. A one button solution would be a godsend. Oh, remember to buy an HDMI cable that is able to handle 3D content. The remote sucks. They include a "dumb remote" with this "smart" TV. Why not create a remote that complements Android TV? The smartphone app that you can use isn't the same as a real remote. The TV has a power adapter, much like a laptop. Mine has a buzz coming from the battery which angers me. Changing outlets did not solve the issue. Will need to speak to a Sony rep about this. Also, the 2 prong connector cable is very short. I ordered a much longer cable. And no, it did not fix the buzz. The sound is great in my opinion. I am currently looking for a soundbar. I am having a hard time finding one slim enough to be placed under the sensor. You can play video files from a USB flash drive. You have to go into the Video app to see your content; You won't find it in the input menu. After a while the TV does not see it anymore. You have to unplug and restart the TV view it again. I hope this review is helpful to most. I honestly did not find much info about this TV before buying it. Don't drive yourself crazy looking at the ratings from other websites. Just go for it and see if you like it.
