Great product, wish it came with instructions. Included how to open and how to clean screen in review.
We just ordered the new Kindle Fire HD 7 2013 model. It is going to be a gift for our five year old this Christmas, although the rest of the family will be using it as well. We opened our i-Blason case for our new Kindle Fire this evening. The case seems very protective, and the blue isn't as bright in reality as in the photo, which I preferred, actually. All of the ports line up perfectly with the case. It seems like it will do the job of protecting from falls, and at an excellent price. The screen is sensitive, reads all the finger-touches, and we did not notice any difference in the graphics. The reason why I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is that it came without any instructions. I reviewed this cover for other products before purchasing it, and I had the same experience: I couldn't figure out how to open it at first, and it was hard to re-open after the tablet was inside. But as we are not planning on taking it on and off, this shouldn't be that much of an issue. What really was the biggest issue from the lack of instructions was no details on how to clean the built-in protective screen (which was a strong selling point, a must for us). The reason why we immediately re-opened the protective cover was that a smudge had gotten on the inside of the screen somehow, and we wanted to clean it off. The "fog breath" method didn't work, and other methods got the screen more smudged. Eventually I used a vinegar-water solution to clean it, and that seemed to work. There are still some slight streaks, but they are liveable. If this case proves to withstand all the antics of our five year old, then I will come back and give it 5 stars. However, I would strongly recommend the i-Blason company include instructions on how to open and clean their product. Since they did not, I will include what we discovered here. UPDATE:: I've come back just shy of a year later to say that not only did the cover stand up to all the antics of our 5 year old, but the antics of our toddler as well! Our kindle has been dropped, kicked, even thrown a couple of times, and it still works PERFECTLY thanks to the i-Blason cover! I'm upgrading the review to 5 stars, and I hope the company includes instructions on how to open these now for new customers! VERY VERY pleased with this product! ------------- How to open: This case basically just pulls apart and clicks together. You should notice a thin groove that is not an opening for any kind of button or electrical port. Use this groove to help open the case -- we took a dime, put it in the groove, then turned the dime. This should open the case slightly enough for you to be able to pull the case apart. If your case is difficult to open like ours was (another reviewer didn't have any difficulty opening the case), this method should help you pry the two pieces apart. How to clean: Mix together vinegar and water. The vinegar should not constitute more than 50% of the solution. It is OK if the vinegar solution is more diluted (I think mine was 40% vinegar), but it should not be stronger. I put my solution into a spray bottle, then sprayed that onto a paper towel so that it was saturated, but I imagine that you could dip the paper towel into the solution in a bowl as well. Take the paper towel with the vinegar solution and wipe it over the screen. Then immediately dry the screen with another paper towel. If you still notice streaking and smudges, repeat, drying with a soft cloth instead (you may also use a soft cloth for the vinegar solution). This may not get the screen 100% smear & smudge free, but until the company issues cleaning instructions, this is the best we've found. Our screen was 90%+ clean.
