W-O-W that spells WOW!
Sweet mother Mary and Joseph! This thing just flat gets with the program! I'm not a professional sound engineer but I do enjoy nice speakers. I have a whole litany of home theater equipment, car audio, and headphones. I have heard a few Bluetooth speakers in my day. Most are pretty capable speakers in terms of volume. The sound quality is hit and miss. I was looking for a deal on Black Friday as I wanted to replace the Bluetooth speaker I had (a very cheap black friday deal from several years ago). I did some research and settled on the Magic Box II. Everyone was raving about it and I figured for the money it was at least worth a shot. I unboxed it and was pleasantly surprised with the heft of it and surprised how small it was. It seems too small, and I thought ok well it feels good but it isn't very big. My expectations were unclear. Fired it up and paired it to my phone. I was listening to Pitbull last so that is what it cued up. I was immediately slack jawed at the amount of noise it put out, and that was whatever the default setting was. I thought well heck this thing must be turned all the way up (which would have still been impressive). Wrong she had more to give! LOUD! LOUD! LOUD! This was not in a small room either. This was in the living room which is two stories straight up. OK so it is loud. You get that. How is the sound quality? Better than fair, but not the best I have ever heard by any stretch of the imagination. The highs are ok which most of these little speakers seem to do pretty well with. The mids are very nice, and if I had to point to one area where it shines it would be the mids. The bass is present (which is incredible considering how small it is) but it is muddy, however it is trying so dang hard that it vibrates itself while sitting on the counter. While it certainly isn't replacing any of my subs it is MORE than capable of filling the garage or my backyard by the pool with plenty of volume and enough sound quality to not complain about it. It gets a little distorted at high volume but nothing horrible. I honestly don't ever see why you would need to turn it up loud enough that it was distorting, but to each their own. The whole unit has a quality feel too it, from its heft and the nice positive engagement of the buttons when pressed. I can't imagine how they have put this together and are able to sell them so cheaply. It has a nice simple clean look to it. I wish the charge/Bluetooth indicator light was a little easier to see through the grill but no big deal. I haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life, but if this thing were to only give me 2 hours at a time I couldn't be mad at it because of the volume it can produce. For the money... I don't see how you can go wrong with this one. Are there better alternatives at a higher price point... I think there are. Can this thing be beat for the size and cost? I seriously doubt it.
