Okay, I am not a fan of tire chains. Clunky. (Check!) Tedious to install. (Check!) Heavy. (Check!) But, then there is this thing called snow and regular tires just can't get a grip!! And so it always had to be chains: tedious, heavy, and hard to install chains. Then someone invented a tire sock. How intriguing! I saw an ad on tire socks and decided to order them. The woman in the ad was wearing stilettos and a dress, so I figured I could install them. Then, we went off on our snowy vacation. Being the person who liked to run into town for take-out in a rural mountain town where we vacationed, these tire socks got a lot of attention. I went to a diner where they made all the food homemade and waited for my take-out order. When I came outside, there were about 10 men who appeared to be 70-years old or older inspecting my car. When I came to open the door of my car, one of them said, "This your car?" I replied, "Yes, this is my car." Another one said, "Well, what are those gosh darn things on your tires?" I replied, "These are tire socks. They are light, compact, and easy to install." Another one said, "Don't you have a husband to drive you around in the winter?" I replied, "Yes, I do have a husband. But you see, he is from Southern California. In general, he hates to drive and refuses to drive on the snow." Another man added, "Well, all be darned. A woman who knows about cars and knows how to drive in the snow." So, then they asked me all kinds of questions about my tire socks and we talked about cars. It was a humorous and endearing experience. And just maybe these men will look for tire socks too. Stranger things have happened! But, to be quite serious... I will NEVER go back to chains. I don't know how the inventor of these tire socks managed to create a product with more traction than chains, but they did it. And these tire socks are less of a hassle than chains. That is for sure. And they attract adorable groups of retired men who want to talk to the lady who knows about cars. LOL!
