This is a "spoof" story not a "serious believe me" story so don't expect normal this is a real story style acting
I also thought this was a hilarious movie. I thought the sub-titles introduction of characters actually added to the movie as it is an interesting take on the list of characters that are often found in older books. Most critics appear to be taking this story way to seriously. This is supposed to be a funny, light-weight story and making a movie of this story where one "deeply engages with the characters" and all those other high-sounding phrases would take away from the main theme of the movie: how ridiculous some narcissistic people really are. It is a delightful evening of entertainment with beautiful costumes and settings. Any reader of romance knows where the story will go from the very beginning and can sit back and relax and appreciate the scheming Susan.
