Excellent prints, poor scans
After doing a ton of research on reviews I decided on the Canon PIXMA line for a few reasons: 1. they have had solid reviews for the last few model years 2. Photo quality was consistently mentioned as being great 3. Individual ink tanks are a must for me (vs. HP printers that have a single tri-color tank which must be replaced if any one of the three colors is empty) All that being said I was very nervous to try a new model year with zero reviews for it yet, but after one day i have been pleasantly surprised. Setup was extremely easy, and I was off printing very high quality photos in less than 30 minutes. Including unboxing, connecting to wifi, and figuring out how to load photo paper. I attached two images of a photo I printed. the first was actually using the scanner built in to this printer which is turning out to be pretty low quality. I have only had it for a day and will update if I figure out some solution to get better quality scans. Since the scanned image is not representative of the quality of prints, I also took a picture of the print on 5x7 photo paper with my phone and you can see the detail a bit better. Overall I would say the photo prints are well beyond my expectation for a home printer in this price range. They are just short of CVS quality prints. When you look very closely and look for defects, I can see some graininess, especially in the sky (though it didn't come through in the picture of the print because it is so minor). But this is me being very nit-picking. Color accuracy is very good in my opinion, but very slightly warmer than the source image. Overall I give the prints a 5/5. Scanning a 2/5 (very disappointing). I will update soon if I figure out more about scanning in higher quality.
