Yes, for $55 you get nothing more than a flap of leather, a notepad and some elastic bands. So, you will either love this product, or find it a ridiculous waste of money. My opinon? This notebook is just nice to have. Sort of a leather covered security blanket for grownups. I like it for much the same reasons people are willing to pay hundreds or even thousands of Dollars for a watch that tells the time just like a $5 gas station watch. If you get that....then the Midori traveler's notebook might be for you. Update: I've now been using the traveller's notebook for 18 months. I have to say its become a treasured possession. Any wear and tear marks just add to its appeal. About to buy another one. Another update: Its now close to three years since I started using my travelers notebook. It looks as good as the day I bought it. Very little in the way of wear or tear marks, despite being chucked in my bag, left in the car, having coffee spilled on it, etc. etc.
