I purchased this for use in the living room and am very satisfied with how quiet the humidifier is. The unit is maybe five feet away from the seating area and I cannot hear it at all while watching the television. It's super easy to operate, the remote is very handy as it eliminates the need to bend over to turn on or change the functions. The display is great as well since it shows the room temperature and % of humidity in the room. I use tap water as the water supply is very clean here and will update my review, if needed, after I clean it for the first time. One thing that's unclear in the instructions that came with the humidifier though is the difference between Warm mist and Anion settings. The fist setting is warm mist and the second is Anion. The instructions say the second touch of the button will start the "anion/plasma function" and that the "plasma generator" is working. It doesn't go into any detail what that entails. I assume it's a higher temperature of mist. Either that or it's generating plasma which may disrupt the time/space continuum. Either way it's a possible win/win. All things considered, it's a great humidifier for a small house. (1100 sq. foot) Addition. I used it for a few weeks, stopped using it for a few weeks since it got warm, then went to clean it and found a whole lot of gunk on the thing that wouldn't come off after soaking with vinegar for two days. I'm waiting for the service people to get back to me. Addition to addition: The service people never replied to me so I returned the item for a replacement, no charge. After consideration, it's a great humidifier, if you don't mind it needs to be cleaned every week. The instructions are very vague as to how to clean it as well. As a comparison, I purchased a similar humidifier by Homedics. It's instructions were twice as descriptive as the Hupro, especially on how to clean it and how NOT to clean it. IE, don't touch the transducer with you finger. The oils on your hands may harm it. No mention about THAT from Hupro. I'll update in a few weeks...
