I've just recently purchased a new home in Houston Texas, and the builders here use clay soil. I've applied Milorganite, but wanted something to aid in developing my new sod's root system before the grass goes dormant in the winter. After reading a couple academic literature papers, I've learned that the best NPK ratio for bermuda grass is a 3-1-2 so I recently purchased Simple Lawn Solution's Advanced 16-4-8 liquid fertilizer and that stuff is awesome. I saw results almost immediately on my bermuda grass but learned that I needed to aerate in order to really get the product into the clay. Core aeration was an option, but I didn't want all the clay plugs sitting on top of my lawn where it would dry up, get hard, and inhibit sun and moisture from getting into the grass as clay usually gets compacted. I just applied the liquid aeration for the first time last evening using a gallon pump sprayer with a fan nozzle tip to get the finest mist application possible. The solution mixes well-- I would recommend filling up the pump sprayer with water first, and then pouring in the aeration solution as it does get sudsy/foamy if you do the aeration liquid first. I also mixed in a blue indicator dye to aid in evenly distributing the product across my lawn. I've read that liquid aeration usually takes about 3-4 weeks to see results, which is perfect because we are expecting some good rain next week and I will be throwing down some Lesco granular starter fertilizer(15-5-10) by the 4 week mark, in addition to laying down my Fall pre-emergent; I'm hoping that this liquid aeration will enhance everything I am doing to take care of my new lawn. I love how straightforward and easy to use the products from Simple Lawn Solutions are and plan on continuing to support their products. I will probably try their humic/fulvic stuff next to further my neighborhood lawn domination.
