I have got to say this is a great stethoscope. It meets the needs of most medical field professionals. Lately I’ve noticed the trend of many medical students and nurses with cardiology stethoscopes in the hospital setting, so I just want to set the record straight. I wonder how many of those people understand that cardiology stethoscopes are for advanced medical specialist that truly may need a little more acoustics, and have the proper training and technique to really use and understand what the medical tool is providing. May I add that the difference is usually extremely minimal in terms of acoustics (only a trained ear can really grasp it) unless you get a very expensive electronic stethoscope. This classic 3 has more than enough acoustics for most nurses and specialist in the medical field. I’m pretty sure that most people don’t even know which are the high and low frequency sounds we look for in a PE. Metaphorically speaking it’s the equivalent of me buying a NASCAR automobile without having the technique to drive it, plus only able to drive in 75 mph roads. I hope you get the picture. The other odd point is that many people think that the cardiology stethoscope will automatically make you a better clinician. Let me assure you that a well trained professional with good technique and training will do a lot better in terms of diagnosis with a Classic 3 than a person that just relies on having an expensive stethoscope (in other words a professional poser). Believe me you don’t want to do rounds with a cardiologist that sees you with an expensive tool that you don’t truly know how to use. I’ve seen it and it’s pretty embarrassing. If you want to spend your money or be a poser fine go ahead.
The classic 3 is truly more than enough for most medical professionals.
The tubing is thicker and more rugged than classic 2.
Head set also thicker than classic 2
The one piece diaphragm improves sensitivity and acoustics.
The pediatric one piece tunable diaphragm gives more options
Light and comfortable
Great acoustics
I invite those who swear they listen better with a cardiology stethoscope to do the following. Wear a blindfold and ask someone to place the headsets on and auscultate so that way you won’t know what stethoscope is being tested. Make sure the other person has good technique and auscultates on the same points. Doing so you’ll eliminate bias and be able to confirm what I’m saying about the classic three. Just in case you’re wondering I’m an MD so I know what I’m talking about.
