Amazing comforter - just what I've been looking
I had been shopping for 1 month or so for a comforter..Bloomingdales, Macy's, LL Bean, The Company Store, etc. I decided on this comforter/seller due to the great reviews. I wasn't sure which comforter to buy - queen or king, and either the 800TC, 1000TC or 1200TC. I bought the king size in 800TC, and it's perfect. I have a queen size S&F that's 13.5" thick mattress with a standard profile box spring (so, higher than the low profile). The comforter is placed so, the length of the comforter is across the width of my bed. This allows for the comforter to cover my bed down to the top of the bedframe on the side/width of the bed. There's enough coverage of the width part of the comforter to cover the length of my bed with enough overhang at the foot of the bed.
As far as the comforter, itself, it is well constructed and is soft enough that it could be used alone/without a duvet. It does make a little crinkly sound, but that's to be expected due to it being brand new...it'll soften up over time. I decided to get the 800TC because I wanted the down to breathe which is important for regulating the temperature of the comforter. And, the cotton with the 800TC is woven tight enough to prevent feather leakage. I just bought the comforter so, I don't know about durability. I've already used it several nights and so, far the temperature of it is perfect. I keep the temperature in my house at 68F during the night and I'm warm enough without being too warm....and I tend to get warm during the night. As suggested in another review, I contacted the seller prior to ordering to ensure that I got the baffled comforter and that's what was provided. It was in a plastic sealed bag, new and unused. Note that the seller was very quick to respond and extremely helpful.
FYI - read a review about down comforters during my search and discovered some very helpful hints. Hungarian Goose is the bed down as it regulates temperature the best and is more durable. When getting the comforter, fluff it a little bit to get the loft. In the summer, only fluff it once or twice to reduce loft, which causes the comforter to be cooler. In the winter, fluff it a lot for warmer comforter temperature. As far as duvet, stick to a cotton one b/c it allows the down to breathe, which is important for the down to do its job of regulating temperature. Polyester, cotton sateen or silk will trap the heat resulting in the down getting moist and it won't breathe..therefore, the temperature won't regulate and you'll probably get too hot. Wool breathes well so, no worries on that.
