i believe I've figured out how cat's think! Stick with me on this. I had a cat that urinated on my sofa after i moved. I've got two cats, the younger freaked out and the bigger one sort of bullied him when establishing their places in the new house. I tried just about everything. About 2k at the vet getting every freaking test they've got. I tried the sprays, the diffusers, the treats, heck i even bought him a thunder jacket (he wormed his way right out of that) and spoke to a cat whisperer (better known as a behaviorist). The calming collars almost killed both cats, esp when i found one of the collars hanging on a hanger in the closet!! My sofa was covered in plastic, and sprayed mouthwash. As soon as i took the plastic off he'd run over there and pee. I was at my wits end and a petshop and mentioned these scat mats. So, i loaded up my sofa with them, and watched. First, the bigger of the cats (baby huey, but NOT the violator) jumped on it and nothing happened. Suddenly, he goes flying across the room. I tested the shock, and it's not very much, just more abrupt. He's not too smart, and did it one more time, before he decided to avoid the couch. I don't know if the little one took a hint, but suddenly he started avoiding the sofa. Then he walked on it one time, and he took a flying leap. Boy did i get the cold hard stare of pure evil. Baby huey, ran over to comfort his little brother. Suddenly all bad urinating problems stopped. I was even able to move the littler box in the hallway near the sofa (Another attempt to wean him off the couch), into the garage where they have a cat door and ample litter boxes. Then it dawned on me. Cat's are like OCD ninjas. Once they learn a behavior, they'll repeat it over and over, even if the trigger is removed. This was the only way to make the sofa so disdainful, that he would stop. I know he stopped because no more pee, and i even bought a little camera to record when they got near the couch. Now, if i pull back the mat and sit on the sofa, he'll approached and lay down next to me, but if the mat is back in place, it's a no go. Awesome. Now here's the real trick. Order one with the controller, then order the two extenders, and get the power supply. It's cheaper and works just as well. Get this large one for a sofa. I have a large sectional, and it took 3 mats to cover. Don't get the skinny ones for a sofa, because they just hopped over it. Good luck and may the relief be with you!
