Great Vacuum with 2 Large Drawbacks
This is an amazing handheld vacuum. I have 2 other Hoover cordless handhelds and this leaves them in the dust (pun intended). I have a long-haired cat who sheds his weight in soft, clingy fur daily, and this is the only vacuum or other pet hair removal device I have found that picks up every illusive hair. I am only giving it 4 stars for 2 reasons. One, the battery takes an amazing 9 hours to charge, and if you get the extended life battery it takes 12 hours! Also, the extended life battery is the only one currently available and, at $99, costs almost as much as the original vacuum. Also, disregard the picture that shows it comes with 2 filters. It does not. I ordered my vacuum directly from Hoover, and on their website it clearly states that the vacuum comes with 2 filters. When my vacuum arrived with only 1 filter, I called what Hoover inaccurately calls Customer Support and was told that, no, it only comes with 1 filter and furthermore no additional filters are available for purchase. When I called back the next day armed with the printout from their site, they said, oh, well, then you need to return it to wherever you bought it and get a refund. When I told them I purchased it directly from Hoover and gave them the order number, I was told, in that case they would send me the additional filter when they became available. I am not holding my breath. Not having an additional filter is more of a problem than it sounds. You are instructed to wash the filter after every 4-6 uses, and it takes forever to dry. These 2 problems combined make the vacuum unusable for substantial periods of time. I intend to keep the vacuum and will purchase an additional regular-size battery for $69 when and if it becomes available as I like it that much. But overall, Vacuum A+, Customer Service F.
Update: Less than a week after writing this review. the vacuum failed. I called Customer Service and after jumping through more hoops than you can possibly imagine and 4 separate phone calls over the course of a week, I was eventually sent a new one. This vacuum, fingers firmly crossed, continues to work well. One thing I have discovered, however, is that part of the problem with the slow charging is the charger that Hoover includes with the Handheld Air Cordless is a cheaper, inferior version of the Lithium Life battery charger included with the Hoover Air Cordless Upright, which I also own. That battery charger is twice the size and has 8 times the power. I now use it to charge my Handheld battery, and it charges in less than 2 hours as opposed to 9 hours using the other charger. The better charger can be obtained from Hoover for $49.95.
