A worthwhile upgrade from the 1000GPH pump. Needs adapters.
Purchased to replace a 1000 GPH OEM Intex pump that died after three years of use. More pumping capacity is usually better. Since I had a bunch of A/C filters I decided to use this one instead of the popular and more powerful 2500 GPH model, which uses the B filter. If you don't have a bunch of filters, just go for the 2500. It doesn't cost much more. What was unclear to me was whether or not I needed adapters. No one seems to have a photo of the other side of this thing. I saw one that kind of showed it and it looked to me like there was a smaller connection inside of the larger one - see my photo. I skipped the adapters but found out this smaller section is slightly too big for the smaller hoses I had. So I ordered the 1.25 to 1.5 inch type B hose adapter set of 2. The new pump comes with larger hoses.
The plunger valve everyone is talking about - it's not necessary but it's worth it, IMO. I uploaded a photo on a product review over there so you can see how it connects to your pool, though some people connect it to the pump. With it you can turn a handle and cutoff the water at the inlet and outlet, allowing you to change filters with less water loss and to change hoses, if needed. An added benefit is that it creates a 90 degree connection which seems to put less pressure on the soft pool side. The connection doesn't bend as much.
The timer does not use a light eye. I believe it just turns on at the same time every day for whatever period of time you've set. The pump and housing seems more heavy duty but it makes the same racket when running - like it's going to die any minute. At this price I can live with that if it lasts another 3 years. I can definitely feel the difference in the amount of water coming from the outlet. Overall I'm happy with this pump.
