Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

After my Oregon brand thermometer quit working, I started my search for a replacement. After reading way too many reviews about every brand of thermometer that Amazon carries I came to some general conclusions. One is that the sensors on many units have a limited life span, sometimes lasting only several months or less. Two is that the accuracy of many units is questionable, and three is that the units have a wide variety of features. In my research I did not find any two sites that listed a particular thermometer as being the best; every site seems to have a different "best" thermometer. Thus, for me at least, it boiled down to what I personally needed/wanted in a replacement thermometer. I needed a display that was easy to read, especially from a distance. The Ambient has a beautiful color display that I can easily read from across a room. I needed a unit that was accurate, especially for temperature and humidity. The Ambient can be calibrated for both temperature and humidity. There might be some other brands that can be calibrated but I really can't recall any. I wanted a unit that has a variety of features. The Ambient has literally every feature that I wanted, including some that I really don't need. So I am more than satisfied with the Ambient. The unknown factor is reliability but based on all of the reviews I've read the Ambient doesn't have as many failures in a short time as many other brands. A factor that concerns me about many products, including thermometers, is customer service or lack of customer service. Some of the thermometer brands I researched don't even have a customer service number; you get support either by email or by chatting. I haven't had to contact Ambient about this unit so I honestly can't say that their customer service is any better or any worse than from some other brand. At least they do provide a customer service phone number.
