Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt!
If you’re like me, you immediately go to the reviews to read the worst ones, the one star reviews. I did that for this product and almost didn’t buy one because of the smoke and/or toxic fumes mentioned. However, after asking people in my boating group which appliance they brought along for extended trips if they didn’t have an oven on board, 9 out of 10 mentioned the Ninja 9 in 1. So I bought it. It CLEARLY states in the directions that you have to WASH all of the accessories, then replace them in the oven, turn it to air fry at 450 degrees and let it “cook” for 20 minutes to burn off all of the residual stuff on the inside of the oven and on the accessories. It is SUPPOSED to smoke and create unpleasant fumes. This is also something you do when you buy a regular household oven. My guess is that they either didn’t read or didn’t heed the directions and therefore had residue on the oven that they should have burned off before using. So, if you read and follow directions, this appliance works just as well as all of the positive reviews state. I like it because it is small, flips up out if the way when not in use, and most importantly, allows me to bake the chocolate chip cookies that my captain thinks are the best in the world. Since we are planning to spend a year or more on the boat, that is a very good thing!
