It's soft which is just wonderful with the heat. It has a detachable cord so that you can wash the whole thing in the washer. Much improved design over the "removable cover" which always meant for me a struggle to keep the "cover" on the stupid heat pad. Pros: Soft, fully washable- in machine, 4 settings with light (light off- it's off), and magnet to secure on front, also weighted around the edges to help with secure feeling. Cons: Neck opening not too generous. Given the weighting, it's ok to leave it "un-snapped" (not attach magnet) and still feel secure. The plug connection is right over the chest and can get in the way. Looking at other models on the market, seems a common problem. Don't know why they can't put the output at a location that isn't in the way, but oh well. Small picture discrepancy: The back looks nothing like the picture- perfectly fitting. It clumps up a bit but that doesn't detract from it at all. Just thought I'd share that. Fully endore product. I'm buying one for my mom this xmas.
